Tips & Tricks Part 1: Preparing for your engagement session
I am starting a series of Tips & Tricks and today I am sharing some of my favorite tips for getting the most out of your engagement session! Make sure you check back every week to see the new post! You can also sign up for email notifications every time I post something new! 🙂
- Be on time! I start engagement sessions about 1.5 hour before sunset for the beautiful golden hour light. If you are late to our session, that will affect our time together and the amount of images you would get.
- Don’t be afraid to look hot! Wear outfits you feel beautiful wearing. If you feel beautiful when you look in the mirror, it will definitely show in your photographs. Don’t try to force yourself into something uncomfortable that you wouldn’t normally wear (this goes for girls AND guys). Just be you.
- Don’t be afraid of color. Fun, colorful outfits add an extra pop to your pictures. But don’t try to match. Try to pick outfits and accessories that coordinate instead. Visit my PINTEREST board for inspiration at: http://www.pinterest.com/jessicaQwong/engagement-what-to-wear/
- MOST PATTERNS are actually ok, however, graphics are not favorable for portraits especially for men’s shirts that have a moire pattern. I would stay away from overwhelming and distracting patterns.
- I recommend no more than two outfits in order to maximize our time together. If you would like to wear an additional outfit, realize that this will have an impact on the amount of time we are able to spend shooting. Make sure your outfits are something that can be easily changed into at our chosen location.
- If you have props, use them sparingly – I usually recommend up to 3 props in order for us to maximize our time together. And let me know which props you will be using so I can prepare accordingly.
Have fun! I’ll take care of making you both look fantastic so don’t worry about a thing. I realize most people are not used to being in front of a camera, so I will be there giving you plenty of direction. Sometimes I might actually have you pose a certain way. Other times I might ask you to do something. Remember that you don’t always have to sit like a stone statue or grin into my camera lens all the time. Do whatever feels most natural to you.
